The Invacare Tracer EX2 is not my first experience with wheelchairs, but is the first that I have needed for my own use. I purchased it based on reviews here, most notably that of "Chris" the hospital maintainance man. I could not agree more with his assessment.
The welds are of good quality, the chair rolls freely, and it folds readily yet opens into a very rigid platform. This is not a light chair, but a steel frame lends itself readily to MIG welding, and practically begs for customizing. I will post pix, if possible, of any mods made here.
The chrome plating is of barely adequate quality for all but strictly indoor use, but an application of car wax every so often will keep corrosion at bay. The optional removable armrests wobble a bit due to loose tolerances, but they allow quick and easy removal/installation while seated. I believe that for an active person, they are well worth the added, and quite reasonable price.
The optional elevated leg rests are well designed, and function smoothly, but if you are especially tall or long legged you may find that they are simply too short. An extra 2 inches of adjustability would be most welcome by me, and extentions will have to be fabricated before I can use them. This will not be complex, or expensive, but would not be difficult to offer as optional equipment.
A cushion may be mandatory here. I weigh 40# less than the chair is rated for, but in 1 week the seat stretched until the frame can be felt. It is possible that the design is not flawed, and that the materials are simply out of specification... and possibly only for 1 batch. Be prepared for the added expense, the added comfort will be welcome in any case.
The included manual is reasonably clear, and concise.
I have purchased/built a wide variety of equipment, and I very rarely see this level of value in economy priced gear. I am not only pleasantly surprised, but very impressed with both the design and build quality. I would recommend this chair to anyone that must take price into consideration. 4.750 stars, without reservation.
very easy to roll
A couple of weak connectors failed and could have allowed the chair to collapse if we had not noticed it. The manual did not show enough detail on the parts so make it easy to figure out the problem or to order a replacement part. Except for this problem, the chair has been a good value for the money.
I found the chair to be what I needed to enjoy my vacation. The only drawback to the chair that I had was that the seat didnt breath and in the heat you got sweaty and uncomfortable on the backsside.
I work in a hospital and maintain everything from x-ray to wheelchairs. When I saw the wheelchair my grandfather was previously using I became worried that it was going to fail. I knew that it needed to be replaced. I purchased the tracer ex2 because, from my experience, I've found these chairs are very durable and easy to maintain if they need it. Invacare is a great brand and I highly recommend it. One suggestion I do make is that if the person who is going to use the chair is tall or a little wide get the wider chairs so they are more comfortable. My grandfather loves his so much he actually got another for everyday use at the nursing home. As a technician and a family member I could not recommend a better chair for the price.
Needed to go to a wedding and my old chair qwas falling apart. My friend recommeded your chair and decided to get it. I felt like a had a wondrful chair as an extension of my attire. I was truely decked out and felt really good about myself. Thank You!
Very afforable for low income families.
Great value for price. Easy to get in and out of back seat of car. Folds up and opens easily. Relatively lightweight. Seat starts to sag after a year or so, but a cushion will extend its life. Own two, one for home and one for car. Not confined to wheelchair, so use mostly for getting back and forth to other chairs to sit on. Would want a more comfortable chair if I were confined to it. This one works great, though, if you just need something durable to help you get around.
exellent Product, i use it daily as i have MS and can't walk more than couple of min.
Very easy for me to use, also very easy for my wife to push me around. Well balanced. I use this chair to manouver in small stores where I cannot go with my scooter or electric wheelchair. I am very happy with this purchase.
Ordered and used this wheelchair for a holiday trip. Had no problems traveling by air. Served its purpose well. Plan to use it more as needed in the future.
Lot of chair for the money.
I bought this wheelchair for my aunt. She just loves it because she can go faster down the hall and get around her bed easier at the [...]
Purchased for my daughter to use during her first of 2 surgeries she needs to correct foot problems.
One foot was to be done at each surgery. She is an active teen and used the wheelchair to go out with friends, at the mall, movies, and visiting with relatives over the holidays. She also used it around the house when her cructhes were bothering her wrist and arms. The wheelchair folds up nicely and is not to heavy to pick up and put in car. The seat is comfortable and the chair is easy to use. The price is good.
I use this chair daily and while it is easy to use and maneuver, it is somewhat heavy if someone needs to lift it into a vehicle.
My mother isn't getting around well, she's 81 yrs.old. She was unable to go to the malls and fairs and such. Now she is able to go, shop, look around and she isn't fatigued like she used to get after just 15 minutes of walking. It is great.
I also purchased the cushion which she likes, the side pouch- which doesn't fit well and rubs, and the cup holder which doesn't attach at all well.
seat gets a little uncomfortable but a small pillow to sit on helps with that.
This product is stylish (I liked the blue). It enabled me to be able to attend events like the Renaissance Faire, which I would not have been able to do otherwise. It performed ok going over grass and rough terrain. I am very pleased with it. I use it for other events also.
Loved the option to get the extra wide seat and the arms so that we could get up to tables. It was a great deal for the price.
Only a few things that we would improve on.
First, we didn't like that the front wheels were so large. They made it hard to maneuver the chair when folded because they hit each other.
Second, we didn't like that the release latches for the footrests were on the inside of the chair which hit the back/side of the legs if you let them rest downward.
Third, some parts that hold and support the arms are plastic which caused us to not really want to rely on putting a lot of weight on the arms for fear that the plastic would break.
Last, it was heavier than we expected.
All in all though - we're very happy with the purchase. (We just wish the accessories were more reasonably priced!)
We use this product to take with us in a van in order to provide a handicapped person easy access to offices, restaurants, theaters, etc.
This is a high quality product and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a wheelchair.
Durable and dependable. Easy to use and a great value for the price.
The chair is used each and every day, and is very easy for my son to move around in. also it is easy to load and unload.
All the chair anybody needs. Sturdy, comfortable, easy to roll. Not for portable use, but otherwise outstanding.
I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE IT WAS REASONABLY PRICED AND HAD SOME PRETTY DECENT REVIEWS. THE REVIEWS WERE CORRECT, FOR THE MOST PART. WOULD NOT WANT TO LIVE IN THIS, BUT SERVES IT'S PURPOSE AS A MEANS OF TRANSPORT FOR ELDERLY TO DISNEYLAND, SPORTING EVENTS, SHOPPING ETC.
PRETTY DECENT VALUE FOR MONEY. ALTHOUGH SOME ASPECTS OF IT LOOK CHEAPLY MADE, IN FACT IT HAS HELD UP WELL SO FAR (4 MONTHS). A BIT BOUNCY ON ANYTHING BUT THE SMOOTHEST PAVEMENT, BUT FOR THE PRICE, DECENT VALUE.
This was purchased for a 78-year-old woman making the transition to assisted living. Recent health problems had left her in need of at least a walker and on most days a wheelchair. The Invacare Tracer EX2 is a *great* value for a very decent product. The only complaint I might have is that it is heavy, which makes it a challenge to get it in and out of a car for a person with reduced upper body strength. For all other purposes it seems to be fine.
